Its origins can be traced back to the early 1960s when Rolex formed a partnership with the renowned Daytona International Speedway. The Rolex Daytona is a legendary timepiece with a rich history and significant evolution since its inception. Since its launch, the Cosmograph Daytona has been the watch of choice for motor sport enthusiasts. Long distance routes were diverted to Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and Seaboard Air Line Railroad routes on the Florida interior south of the Jacksonville Union Station, following the beginning of a labor dispute on the FEC in 1963.

• Since 1952, the nonprofit Daytona Beach Symphony Society has sponsored performances by U.S. and international orchestras, opera, and dance companies each season at the Peabody Auditorium.
• According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 64.93 sq mi (168 km2), of which 6.25 sq mi (16 km2) (9.6%) are covered by water.
• In 1872, due to financial troubles, Day lost title to his land; nonetheless, residents decided to name the city Daytona in his honor, and incorporated the town in 1876.

The city has a successful recycling program with separate pickups for garbage, yard waste, and recycling. Florida’s 6th congressional district, which extends from the southern Jacksonville suburbs to New Smyrna Beach and includes St. Augustine and Daytona Beach. Under Daytona Beach’s commission-manager form of government, voters elect a city commission, which consists of seven members who serve four-year, staggered terms. Alongside NASCAR, the track also hosts the 24 Hours of Daytona, which is part of the triple crown of endurance racing, the event is sanctioned by IMSA.

The Rolex Daytona has made a profound impact on the watchmaking industry. This was entirely developed by Rolex and featured a vertical clutch mechanism, enhancing the watch’s precision and reliability. It began life as a manual-wind watch, with movements sourced from the famous chronograph manufacturer, Valjoux. This collaboration led to the creation of a chronograph aimed at professional racing drivers, hence the name “Daytona”.

Current passenger airlines serving DAB include Delta Daytona Spin UK Air Lines (with nonstop service to Atlanta) and American Airlines (with nonstop service to Charlotte). The present facility was constructed in 1992 at the cost of $46 million, and includes both a domestic terminal and an International terminal. Basic utilities in Daytona Beach (water and sewer) are provided by the city government.

The Volusia County Beach Patrol provides law enforcement and EMT services along Volusia County beaches, including the beaches in the city of Daytona Beach. Some of the larger private schools include Father Lopez Catholic High School. The city commission establishes ordinances and policies for the city.
